Game

Get a copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee. You can play locally on console via GameCube or Wii, or online using your PC via emulator. For online matchmaking to work, make sure you have the NTSC v1.02 version of the game (USA region). Rip your copy and save it as an ISO for use with Slippi (tutorial).

Controller

A GameCube controller is recommended for play. Generally speaking, you should try to get first party, Nintendo-made controllers over third party controllers (advanced guide). Otherwise, you can buy special arcade controllers which are made for competitive play.

Slippi

Install Slippi to play Super Smash Bros. Melee online (tutorial). View our optimization tips to make sure your emulator runs as smoothly as possible on your machine. Join the Slippi Discord server for support. View the leaderboards to see who's at the top of ranked.

Controller Adapter

Get a GameCube controller adapter for your PC, preferably an Input Integrity, Nintendo, or Mayflash 4-port adapter. Install drivers to get your adapter working on macOS and Linux.
Advanced for Mayflash Windows users: overclock your adapter and increase your input polling rate with the V.05 firmware (video tutorial).
